Each morning as I walk from my car into MelroseWakefield Hospital, I’m greeted by wonderful words of encouragement, love and support written in chalk on the sidewalks around the building. Our Chalk Angels, as we’ve come to know them, are inspiring our team of healthcare workers. Lately, we are looking for those moments during the day that put smiles on our faces, and remind us why we do the work we do.
Healthcare workers are a unique and resilient group of people. From the nurses and doctors, to the accountants and cafeteria workers, I see the strength of our workforce every day. Heroes don’t always wear capes…
I can’t praise the work that our staff is doing enough. Things will most likely get tougher in the coming weeks, but we will get through this…I am certain.
Our community is also helping tremendously. We are thankful for the many donations of personal protective equipment we have received. Most importantly, we are thankful for the community efforts to help Flatten the Curve. I can’t emphasis this enough.
Please, please stay home. Please practice social distancing. Please thoroughly and frequently wash your hands. Delaying the number of cases we see at any one time is our best shot at being able to adequately manage the need and volume.
We are supporting social distancing by having many of our community physicians offer care via telemedicine appointments. If you are experiencing any symptoms, such as coughing, fever or shortness of breath, please contact them rather than visit the hospital.
I am so very proud of the staff of MelroseWakefield Healthcare as they serve at the front lines of this COVID-19 battle. They work selflessly to provide the highest level of care for our patients.
Please take care of yourselves and others and stay safe.
